Like a toasty warm cabin after a long trek in the snow, the Fuji sauna from Peak Saunas invites you in and makes you want to stay. The sauna is designed to accommodate two people, though it can also be enjoyed as a roomy solo retreat. The exterior dimensions are 53" wide by 44" deep, and it stands 75" tall. It is built from Canadian red cedar and powered by a standard wall socket with a 120-volt 20-amp circuit. The sauna is designed in the USA and it includes a limited lifetime warranty. The built-in red light panel uses eight wavelengths (from 590 to 940 nanometers) to support collagen and help healing. The sauna is delivered curbside by freight delivery in a wood crate and it is easy to assemble. The sauna is sturdy once it has been fully assembled, and it weighs in at a hefty 385 pounds.

Why have a home sauna?

If you appreciate a slow 'fika' (coffee break) and that calm Swedish feeling of 'mys' (cozy), the Fuji sauna brings that all home so you can make regular routine of it. And it is a good habit, since regular heat sessions are linked with better cardiovascular outcomes in long term Finnish cohort data, and infrared sessions have demonstrated that they can ease musculoskeletal pain in small but growing studies. And it's a relaxing routine, all you have to do is sit, breathe, and let the heat do the work for you. It is a peaceful and relaxing way to better health, and once you get into the routine it becomes obvious why the Scandinavians are so obsessed with saunas and why so many of them have one at home.

About Peak Saunas

Peak Saunas originally launched by offering a number of different brands through their online store. After getting input from customers, they decided to create their own line of saunas with the features everyone was requesting. With this direct-to-consumer model, Peak Saunas is able to offer good value for the money. Their saunas boast near zero EMFs, and help is just a phone call away. Other brands of saunas are still available from Peak Saunas for those looking for special features offered by specific brands.

Design, wood, and finish

The Fuji uses premium Canadian red cedar with a low VOC. Cedar is the ideal wood to build saunas from since it resists moisture and stays comfortable to the touch when the sauna reaches full temperature. The Fuji sauna's footprint is 53" by 44", and the interior measures 49" by 40" by 67" tall, so there is a very generous amount of room for one (and ample shared space for two). The surfaces you touch arrive sanded and smooth so you don't have to worry about splinters or rough edges. However, it is recommended that you use gloves when opening the crate since raw crate wood can result in some splinters. The sauna itself should be placed on a level dry floor (with two inches of clearance).

Heat performance

The Fuji sauna places eight carbon panels around you and adds a forward facing near-infrared source for your chest and legs. The working maximum temperture is around 150 degrees Fahrenheit, although the owner guide shows a temperature setting band from 90 to 165. Real world infrared cabins of this size tend to settle near the mid 140s in typical homes. Expect a strong sweat by the 20 minute mark and a mellow endorphin wave that feels very lagom (just right).

Medical grade red light panel

Fuji includes an oversized front wall panel with eight wavelengths from 590 to 940 nanometers. The panel can be run on its own for a short recovery session or alongside a heat session for double duty. It should be noted that the red light may cycle off briefly when the cabin reaches its safety limit. Start a red light block at warmup to get an uninterrupted window, or power the panel from a separate outlet using the supplied extension if needed. This is a real panel rather than accent LEDs, which sets Fuji apart from many mid market rivals. Sauna Warehouse+1

Sauna Controls

The Fuji includes both exterior touch panels with time and temperature control, plus you can use the mobile app to preheat it remotely. The door uses tempered glass and a standard handle so it can be pushed open without special steps.. For families, there is a control lock on the control panels that helps to prevent accidental changes during a session. The interface is direct and easy to use, and it will feel familiar after just a single use.

Safety, EMF, and heat exposure

The Fuji sauna is a near-zero EMF design with shielding on electrical components to reduce and block EMF emission. While we couldn't track down a third party report, we did find some claims online of people who tested it and verified the EMF readings. In regards to heat safety, the manual outlines best practices such as starting with shorter times (keeping sessions between 20 and 40 minutes), and drinking plenty of water before and after sessions to stay hydrated. As always, people with heart, blood pressure, or pregnancy concerns should check with their doctor before using any sauna. There is no door lock by design, which is a safety strength since you can exit unimpeded if you feel light headed.

Power and placement

The Fuji sauna is designed to be plugged into a dedicated 120-volt 20-amp circuit, and it uses a standard NEMA 5-20 plug. You will need to have an electrician add a dedicated 20-amp breaker if you do not already have one that you can use. Peak Saunas requires two inches of clearance around the sauna, and it needs to be set up in a dry interior location. You might consider installing the sauna in a spare room, your exercise room, a finished basement, or a dry and insulated corner of your garage. You should avoid any damp areas, such as if your basement has issues with dampness or laundry rooms with steam. The crate is heavy, so have it delivered along the curb or in your driveway if the delivery driver is up for it (closer is better). It would be ideal to have three people available to unbox it. Two adults can snap the panels together in roughly an hour (less for LEGO Master Builders) since the design uses exterior clasps and labeled harness plugs.

Shipping, delivery, and setup

Units ship in a protective wood crate and are shipped freight with curbside delivery. Typically, Peak Saunas will provide tracking info and then you can call to book a four-hour window for delivery. When it arrives, be sure to inspect the crate for damage before signing the paperwork. The crate is extremely heavy, but you can open the crate where it sits at the curb and bring the sections inside piece by piece. To set it up, simply follow the manual to assemble the back panel, side panels, bench, front, roof, and wiring. The manual pictures are clear, which is helpful for first time builders. Assembly videos are simple enough that most people can handle the whole job without paid installers.

Maintenance and expected lifespan

Infrared saunas require very little maintenance (as long as you keep them dry). You can just wipe the control panel with a dry cloth after use and leave the door slightly ajar after use to vent moisture. If you use it regularly, you might want to remove the bench and floor grate once a month and vacuum under them. It is suggested that you conduct a yearly check on hinges, screws, and wire connections. If the wood dries, you can sand it lightly and use a sauna-safe conditioner to keep it smooth. The lifetime warranty defines 'lifetime' as seven years on heaters and wood for residential use, three years on controls, and one year on the lighting and audio. With normal wear and care you should expect this sauna to last a long time.

Final Considerations

Fuji is roomy for one and has space for two, offers real red light, and uses cedar that smells great. Peak Saunas offers larger units for people looking for a bit more space. The controls are simple and the app is handy. The crate and labeled harnesses make setup less stressful than most flat pack furniture. The warranty terms are clear. If you want steam and sauna whisk sessions, stick with a rock heater. If you want daily heat with low fuss, this Fuji sauna is a great option.

Vetted Verdict

The Peak Saunas Fuji sauna feels thoughtful in the places that matter. The cedar is comfortable and heat is even. The red light panel is a very useful bonus. Delivery and assembly are simple. If you want a calm daily heat that feels 'lagom' (just right) and pairs well with a post-session fika, the Fuji sauna is a great fit. Get a sauna that fits your space and add it to your weekly routine, you won't regret it!
